Another Way to Interact

While RCC members have a great opportunity each month to learn during our professional development webinars, sometimes a more casual conversation might be what’s needed. There are many topics that lean toward more sharing info and best practices instead of the presentation-style session.

That’s why we are launching Third Thursday Talk – casual Zoom meetings, designed as an interactive conversation among members with a designated topic each session.

Reserve your calendar for the third Thursday of each month – Nov 20; Dec 18; usually from 1 -2 pm ET. Zoom details will be shared here and through the monthly newsletter and social media.

Topics:

  • Nov – media relations
  • Dec – AI and how we are using it

Past topics include:

  • July – social justice issues
  • August – community engagement
  • Oct – strategic planning/prep for next year

If you have suggestions for future Third Thursday Talk topics, forward to RCC Executive Director Ginny Hizer at ginny@religioncommunicators.org.

Coming Nov. 20: Media Relations  – Note time of 2-3 p.m. ET

It’s a core communications function that focuses on building and maintaining relationships with media outlets and reporters, with an impact on earned media coverage. It is so much more than simply responding to a reporter;  critical principles of media relations also include accuracy and truthfulness, timeliness, relevance, credibility and knowing the outlet/reporter. In November, our Third Thursday Talk will center on tips for fostering positive media relations.

Coming Dec. 18: AI and how to use it – from 1-2 p.m. ET

Regardless if you love it, hate it or are still trying to decide – AI is here to stay.  Stats indicate that 85% of communicators have used AI in some capacity, especially for tasks such as summarizing content, producing content faster, conducting research and backgrounding, and even writing press releases and speeches. Bring your questions, best practices and concerns as we share how we’re using AI to foster our communciation work. (Note: our December 10 professional development webinar will also focus on AI with a presentation on “Perspectives of Traditional Religions on Positive AI Futures,” by William Jones, Associate of Futures Programs, Future of Life Institute. Details for that presentation here.)
